Jeep Wrangler Diesel Coming In 2011

2011wranglerWith Fiat at the helm, the new Chrysler announced its future product plans recently. It is the grand plan, the map to coming back, gaining back American buyers, and thriving again. Digging into the pages and documents we have learned that diesel engines provided from Fiat’s portfolio will indeed come to American products.

Fiat’s 1.6 and 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo diesels will likely find their way into various North American products, but the first will be a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Featuring the larger 2.0 liter version of the clean diesel engine, the Wrangler will have stop start technology as well to help raise efficiency even further.

The Chrysler product plan says we will see this new diesel Jeep by about this time next year. Not bad. While final power and specifications are not set, it is estimated that the 2.0 liter turbo-diesel will provide about 150-160 hp. The diesel will have after-treatment technologies that will meet the next generation 2015 Euro and US emissions standards.

Beyond that the company plans to have diesel engines making up 9% of their product mix in 2010, increasing to 14% by 2014. While this number includes Ram brand trucks, the growth is reflective of new cars and SUV’s being added.
