You have to laugh. Audi has pulled off a coup in all quarters with their cheeky “Green Police” clean diesel ad that played during the Superbowl. The ad which features an Audi TDI getting passed over by the army of ridiculous “Green Police” has all the news pundits chattering, the talks shows talking, and the blogs blogging. Hell, we’re talking about it too.
The backdrop of the ad is a world where every little crime against Eco-Mentalist Political Correctness is chased down by a band of over-zealous “Green Police”. From plastic grocery bags to using the wrong light-bulbs the police are attacking people left and right, pulling them from their cars and homes.
In a “Green Police” road block, a driver of a new Audi TDI is told to go ahead unscathed with the officer notes he is driving a clean diesel.
Of all the pundits Rush Limbaugh got it the best. The Audi commercial makes fun of the Greenies while at the same time appealing to them. The piece is done in such a way that gets a laugh from those who rightly fear a day when we have such a police force chasing us down for eco-crimes while also stroking the nuts who actually think it is a good idea.
Whether you think the Eco-Mentalists should be locked up or think that humans are filthy bile on Mother Earth, you will likely have come away from viewing the commercial with a positive vibe on the Audi TDI. In that lies its brilliance.
