Volkswagen has finally released renderings of the all new upcoming mid-size sedan. The new model is primarily designed for the American market to compete against the mainstream mid-size segment including the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevy Malibu and Ford Fusion.
The all new sedan will be built at Volkswagen’s new state-of-the-art assembly plant just now in its final building stages at Chattanooga, Tennessee. There is little information about the specifications of the yet un-named Volkswagen, but we can expect a base four or five cylinder and optional V6 gasoline engines.

Of course a TDI diesel option should be a given. The 2.0 liter diesel four currently seeing duty in the Golf range would be a reasonable option. The sedan may even be large enough to accommodate the 3.0 liter V6 diesel used in the Touareg. It is also likely that Volkswagen will pursue a hybrid option as well.
The renderings show strong family resemblance to the rest of the Volkswagen line. The new design language is being incorporated across the entire model line similar to how Audi has done. The car looks aggressive and German, not at all bland like many of the cars it will be competing with.
The front view shows the strong hood lines while the side profile introduces the broad C-pillar and strong shoulder line. In addition, the sculptured side panel has a strong rocker line running between the wheel arches. The unique head and tail lights are visible from the front and rear perspectives and underscore the model’s modern, sporty look.
The production version of the car will make its debut in January 2011 at the Detroit Auto Show with production starting about this time next year. Full specifications should be released at that time as well.
