Mercedes-Benz has announced this week that it will bring big S-Class diesel back to the U.S. The 2012  S350 Bluetec 4Matic will also feature all-wheel drive and arrives to dealers in the summer.

The new full sized S-Class Bluetec will feature Mercedes Benz’s venerable 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel that makes 240 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. It will be mated to a smooth shifting seven-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes Benz states that the car will perform as well in acceleration as it does in efficiency, with 0-60 acceleration in only 7.0 seconds. Fuel economy is expected to be in the neighborhood of 25-30mpg on the highway, though the EPA has not yet released figures.

It has been over 15 years since Mercedes Benz has offered a diesel engine in their S-Class offerings in the United States. It has been a staple around the world and even in the US in the 1980’s and in the 1990’s.
