Mazda Motor Corporation will debut a their new Takeri midsize sedan concept car at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show nexe month. Mazda will also be showing off the new CX-5 crossover SUV.
The Takeri Concept signals what the next generation Mazda 6 sedan will look like. The CX-5 production version has been shown. Both models be offered with a diesel SkyActiv-D engine option. Mazda has officially stated that the CX-5 will offer it in the US.
The Mazda Takeri exploits Mazda’s new design language called “Kodo” which means “Soul of Motion”. The concept itself will be showing off a full array of Mazda SkyActtiv technologies , including the efficient and powerful new SkyActiv-D clean diesel engine.
It also features the i-stop idling stop system and Mazda’s first non-hybrid based regenerative braking system. The regenerative braking system efficiently converts kinetic energy to electricity during deceleration, stores it in capacitors and then uses it to power the vehicle’s electric equipment, thereby reducing load on the engine and saving fuel. Mazda says that the combination of the diesel engine and an idling stop system, i-stop, and a new regenerative braking system enable the Mazda Takeri to achieve above average fuel economy.
The Mazda CX-5 will be the first of Mazda’s products sold in America that will feature the complete range of SkyActiv powerterains. Mazda boasts that the CX-5 delivers predictable and responsive handling for a high-quality and responsive ride matched with outstanding environmental and safety performance.
The Mazda CX-5 goes on sale next year as a 2013 model. The next-generation Mazda6 based on the Takeri Concept is due in 2013.
