Jeep Announces Grand Cherokee Diesel

submit to reddit

Chrysler has announced officially today ahead of the Detroit Auto Show that it will build a diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee for 2013 for sale in the United States.

While no technical specifications have been given as of today’s announcement we expect that Chrysler will offer a version of the same diesel engine it currently already builds into the Jeep Grand Cherokee for export.

That engine is a 3.0 liter V6 turbodiesel which produces 237hp and 405 ft-lbs. Of torque. The diesel Grand Cherokee achieves 27 city and 39 highway mpg in the European cycle. The mileage numbers would likely be somewhat less here in the US.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 liter diesel accelerates from 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds too, so its no “slow diesel”. No sale date or pricing was announced for the Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, however we imagine it could be here as soon as this fall.
