Very nice car.

However, I would not buy anything made by Government Motors.

If they ever become 100% private and stop taking taxpayer handouts with the help of this Socialist administration, I would reconsider. If Ford had one in other than an F-xxx truck I certainly would.

I will support companies that have the courage and vision to see that diesels make sense. VW is one of them and I have owned TDIs and now that they are back will again very soon.

Bought a new 1981 Olds Cutlass V8 diesel (new)and liked it. Not a structurally strong engine as it was a beefed up gas V8 and very noisy but that gave it it's charm. Don't know why the press complains about the old diesel days. They weren't as clean back then but just as good, certainly simpler.

Missed out on a TDI on my last VW purchase and looking forward to it's replacement in a few years, TDI of course. My gas Passat variant will be passed on my my teenager. Have my eye on the Touareg TDI

Finding out that Jeep will not sell a diesel Wrangler in the US makes me understand why Chrysler/Jeep is going under as a car manufacturer. I will now sell my 2007 Wrangler X and look to buy something diesel with better fuel economy than 15 MPG. Like the author of this article said "Given the choice to spend a few thousand dollars more, Americans would buy every diesel powered Wrangler Jeep could build" I'm tired of getting American cars that give mileage in the teens--15 MPG is what I get with my Wrangler. It's not worth the top down experience anymore. Get with the program JEEP. Americans don't want to keep getting poor gas/fuel mileage vehicles.

NO! They do not need to re-invent the wheel. Here is the simple solution. A 4.48L inline four version on the current 6.7L inline six now in the Ram 2500. That means they can share more parts. And the inline four should make about 230hp and about 530 ft-lbs of torque. Plenty of oophm. If BMW can make a 3.0L that makes 265hp with 425ft-lbs of torque. HELLOOOO!

As Volvo is now owned by the Chinese, it'll be interesting to see if they respect the "don't import affordable TDI vehicles for the masses that would compete with the high mark up hybrids" doctrine that has prevailed in the US markets.

The obvious application of a diesel engine to a hybrid powertrain is long overdue. Why Toyota has not put the 80HP TDI D-4D engine from the Yaris into the Prius is baffling, except that perhaps they didn't want to alert the general U.S. public that they had such an engine already developed. A D-4D TDI in the very slippery Prius platform would raise the highway MPG maybe into the low 60's...while the standard Eurospec D-4D Yaris at $6-$8K less is still delivering maybe 55MPG to European commuters.

It would be real fun to see the China-owned TDI Hybrid Volvo carve a big chunk out of Prius turf. Even more fun if they started importing $20-$25K 60MPG TDI cars and 40MPG SUV's for the everyman. The squealing & backpedaling on hybrids from GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, et al would be MOST ENTERTAINING...

I'm not opposed to hybrids. I believe that probably all taxies and lots of city delivery vehicles really should have hybrid powertrains.

But I sure DO oppose the direct blockage of my access to $20K(or so) 50-70MPG vehicles for folks that commute 60 - 150 miles daily. Not anything "free market" about that strategy, except maybe the automakers and fuel companies "free market" slant on manipulating our legislative processes.

Will G.M. actually break the Hybrid-building Auto Industry wide Omerta and actually import one of the affordable, fuel efficient TDI vehicles that they and virtually all others have been witholdinG from the USA market for years? Tune in again next week and see, but don't hold yer breath...

A whole lot of car folks have tremendous amounts invested in
high-mark-up, extended-dealer-only-maintenance hybrid vehicles. Too many hundreds of Millions have been invested in advertising convincing the everyman that although 200 pounds of batteries are required to store the energy equivalent of 1 gallon of gas, that's like "No Problem!" to their obviously brilliant auto engineers.

In the words of Upton Sinclair "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it."

I would definitely buy a 1500 Ram with a diesel had I not just bought a Hemi powered Ram. What will make diesels successful in any vehicle will be for the manufacturers to offer base models with diesel engines. I've watched diesel offerings over the years. What I've noticed is that diesels are typically attached to up-leveled models. I know personally I don't want all the bells and whistles and I know many people that don't either. If I wanted luxury, I'd buy Mercedes or Infiniti.

There are many of us on the "Bring Subaru Diesel to the US!" Facebook fan page clamoring for Subaru to bring their Boxer Diesel to the US. If only they'd listen. Instead, loyal Subaru owners are trading in their old Subarus for new VWs, because VW is delivering what they want.

FYI, in the US the sunroof is not standard on the TDI Sportswagen, it is a $1300.00 option. I know because I just purchased one.
